Connect a WordPress Website

Updated 05/06/2026

How the connection works

Every WordPress website in WPLinker has its own connection token. The token tells your WordPress site which WPLinker website record it belongs to. This is safer and simpler than asking customers to copy website IDs or technical API details.

After the plugin is connected, WPLinker can verify the website, sync categories, publish guest posts, upload images, assign tags, and deliver backlinks to synced backlink groups.

Install the official plugin

Open your WordPress admin area and go to Plugins, then Add New. Search for WPLinker Connector, install it, and activate it. You can also open the plugin directly from the WordPress repository if you prefer installing from the official listing.

After activation, WordPress adds a WPLinker menu item in the admin sidebar. Open that page to paste your connection token.

  • WordPress plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wplinker-connector/
  • Use the token from your WPLinker website edit page.
  • Do not share the token publicly or paste it into another website.

Verify and sync categories

Return to WPLinker after saving the token in WordPress. Open the website edit page and click Verify Connection. If the connection is healthy, WPLinker will show the site as connected.

Next, refresh WordPress categories. Categories are important because buyers choose where a guest post should be published. You can decide which categories are available for publishing by enabling only the categories you want to sell.

Choose a guest post author

On the website edit page, choose the default WordPress author for guest post publishing. This author is used when WPLinker sends a new article to WordPress. For most publishers, it is best to create a dedicated editorial author account in WordPress.

You can keep the default guest post status as Publish. Manual review or automatic publishing should be controlled from the service settings, so your operational workflow stays clear.

Connection checklist

If verification fails, confirm that the plugin is active, the token is copied exactly, your WordPress REST API is not blocked, and your security plugin is not blocking WPLinker requests.

  • The WordPress site URL should include https://.
  • The plugin page should show Connected.
  • The website edit page should show synced categories.
  • A test order should publish to the selected category.
